I honestly didn't.

WHy the heck is that guy jumping on a table in middle of cafeteria?
Why the heck is he kicking a tray in the other guy's face right after trying to cheer him up?
WHy the heck does the other guy break down in tears?

After watching, i just feel there is a lot of missing backstory there. Which makes it kinda hard to relate to the characters.

I guess it's well done a technical side, hence a 6. But i mostly just didn't get it.

I want to give a 10. I really do.
The flash is exellent. The topic is covered very nicely, the visuals and the song are a perfect fit. In short, very good job. In fact, a rare quality job.

But i just can't shake the feeling that it's all too.... smooth?

There is a term in art, called "catharsis". That is the moment when the viewer experiences the height of empathy for what he sees. Essentially every great work had at least one of those moments, building up for it, letting the viewers experience it, and then letting them settle down a bit before the next such moment.

Catharsis is anything but smooth. It is more like a roller coaster of emotions. I guess this is what the flash lacked. It lacked this moment which makes you feel that everything you see is real.

Hmmm... i think the song is to blame.
It is a good song, but it does not convey a changing, evolving feeling. It is more about a constant sad pressure of being in the army. Which all good and nice for the song, but does not help the character development in the movie.

Yeah, i guess that's why i have to give it a 9. It was well done, and all the pieces seemed to be in place, but in the end it just didn't really push any of my buttons :(
